Her caregiving story

In 2008, at the age of 93, Lyda's maternal grandfather passed away, leaving her grandmother alone after 69 years of marriage. Shortly after, her grandmother's health began to decline. It was important to her grandmother that she remain living at home, so the whole family pitched in. They coordinated home health aides, medical decisions, home accessibility changes, finances, and daily visits, all managed through a shared calendar tracking who was coming when.
At the same time, family members spread across the country, from California to Kentucky to New York, were calling in for updates, sending cards, and wanting to stay close. Lyda's grandmother lived another six years and was able to die peacefully in the bed she had slept in for 55 years, surrounded by the people who loved her.
"It took a Caring Village to care for my Nana," Lyda has said. "Luckily, we had numerous family members to help, but if Caring Village would have been available, it would have saved us a lot of time, headache, and stress."
Beyond work
In her free time, Lyda enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She loves to travel and explore new cultures.
