In any emergency, you will want to be as prepared as possible. Training in CPR and general first-aid will give you the basic skills you need to know for how to react and read a situation. Find out more about what CPR and first-aid training classes entail and where you can attend these trainings.

What are CPR and First-Aid Trainings?

CPR stands for cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) – a trainable technique that is extremely useful in multiple types of emergencies (heart attacks, near drowning, etc.). You will use CPR when someone’s breathing or heartbeat has stopped.

First-aid training may include CPR training but in general you will also learn:

  • How to assess an emergency
  • How to identify what is required for the person in need
  • General skills to control bleeding, cuts, and other lifesaving techniques
  • How to read signs of a heart attack, stroke, etc.
  • And most importantly, when to dial 911

Where Can I Get Trained in CPR and/or First-Aid?

You will want to research organizations in your area that offer in-person or online classes. These trainings may have a fee associated with them but there are also free options. Below are three prominent organizations that offer training:

Remember, if you are facing an emergency, you should call 911 even if you feel confident in your abilities. The first-responders are medically trained to handle many scenarios.
