Building HR Tech
In 1996, Scott launched HR Tech with just $5,000. This pioneering professional employer organization transformed human resources for small businesses, offering companies with fewer than 100 employees access to the benefits typically available to Fortune 500 firms. Within six years, Scott scaled HR Tech to $132 million in revenue before successfully exiting the business and redirecting his focus to the healthcare sector.
Founding Lifematters
In 2005, Scott founded Lifematters, a concierge homecare agency dedicated to providing in-home nursing care and support for individuals and families affected by ALS, Parkinson's, Alzheimer's, and other neurodegenerative conditions.
The inspiration for Lifematters stemmed from Scott's personal experience witnessing his grandmother's time in a nursing home. Deeply moved by his father's heartfelt wish to remain at home and avoid institutional care, Scott envisioned a company that would enable his loved ones, and anyone in need, to live comfortably and with dignity in their own homes.
That mission became deeply personal when Scott was able to fulfill his father's wish, providing care through Lifematters' dedicated nurses so his father could live in the home he so treasured until his transition. Under Scott's leadership, Lifematters grew to become the largest provider in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area and one of the most respected nationwide. By the time of its sale in 2021, Lifematters had over 1,500 employees, many of whom had been integral to the company's success from its earliest days.
Investing
In 2015, Scott began his career as an angel investor, leveraging his entrepreneurial experience to support businesses that align with his vision of uplifting humanity. His portfolio includes multiple unicorns, including Sweetgreen.com and Hyperice.com, further establishing his reputation as a forward-thinking and impactful investor.
Personal
An avid explorer, Scott has visited over 80 countries in pursuit of transformative experiences. From motorcycle expeditions across Bhutan to kayaking amidst the glaciers of Antarctica, he combines his love of adventure with a quest for cultural and culinary discovery. His most recent adventure entailed living with indigenous tribes in Ecuador, further enriching his understanding of the world and its diverse traditions.
