"My earliest memories are of 'helping' my grandmother take care of my grandfather, who had Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS). They had a hospital bed in their front room and the seat of an outdoor swing attached to the ceiling above their clawfoot bathtub to make bathtime a little easier. She cared for him at home for 13 years after his diagnosis, and witnessing this has had a profound impact on my life.

Years later, my father battled cancer, and living several hours away made it difficult to participate in his day-to-day care. We had the same struggle with distance proving to be a challenge before both my mother and grandmother passed away.
