What is Active Minds?
Ben Atkinson-Willes, the founder of Active Minds, was inspired by his Grandfather who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2008. Since 2010, Active Minds has been developing activities to improve the quality of life for people living with dementia. Their mission is to create positive, mindfully designed, human-centered activity products and games to help people lead active lives. Active Minds products range from jigsaw puzzles to group games which are designed to stimulate memories, social participation, help dexterity, and cognitive function. After years of research in care homes working with people living with dementia Active Minds have developed age appropriate all-inclusive activities which are aimed at every different stage of dementia.
To date the organization has helped support over 150,000 people living with dementia. In addition, Active Minds social impact report has revealed that 100% of professional caregivers and 80% of family members felt the activities improved the quality of life of people with dementia and those who care for them.
